Drink More Wine in 2017

Happy New Year! As we welcome 2017, we’re looking forward to what this year holds for all of us. We’re also dusting off last year’s New Year’s resolution list, because why not, right? We didn’t get to the gym quite as much and, no, we didn’t cut out as much cheese from our diet as promised. This year is a fresh start though, so we’re adding a new item to the list, which (in our opinion) it’s perfect: “drink more wine.”

Drink more wine, you say? Yes. We stand by the notion that making wine your drink of choice is a better than ordering another heavy beer or sugary mixed drink. So, if losing weight is on your New Year’s to-do list, consider the calories you could be saving by drinking a glass of wine instead.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re not promoting some fast-track diet that’s fueled by vino. Drinking wine in moderation is key and a bottle a day won’t keep the pounds off. But wine, especially white wine, generally contains fewer calories than most heavy beers and sweet cocktails.

Our Dry Riesling wine, for example, contains only 85 calories per 6 oz. glass! Compared to a bottle of Corona, for example, which has 148 calories, your favorite craft IPA which could be up to 450 calories, or a standard 8 ounce margarita which is 455 calories. We love this infographic from Wine Folly that gives an overview of calories and benefits of wine compared to beer.

Wine is also often written about for its various health benefits. We don’t pretend to be medical experts, but we love the idea that drinking wine could promote longevity, or help with heart health.

Is drinking more wine on your New Year’s resolution list for 2017? If so, we’re here to help. Come visit us in our tasting room to sample a variety of wines, or shop online if you already know what you like.
