3 Traverse City Beaches for your Old Mission Wine Tour
Summer in northern Michigan is a magical time. Our communities bustle with visitors happy to spend some time in our little slice of heaven. The tasting rooms are packed with people excited to sample the area’s wines and take in the beauty of the vineyards. Our beautiful lakes come to life with boaters and beachgoers. No trip to northern Michigan is complete without a trip (or five) to the beach, so why not combine the two best activities Old Mission has to offer? Wine and water, of course!
To make things easy, we’ve compiled a list of our three favorite places on Old Mission Peninsula to relax in the sand or take a dip in the lake.
Haserot Beach
A popular favorite when it comes to Old Mission beaches, Haserot Beach is tucked in a small bay along East Bay in the town of Old Mission. This is a small but mighty beach that’s perfectly sandy and great for swimming. If you’re headed to this beach, we highly recommend a stop at the classic Old Mission General Store for some hand-dipped ice cream or a snack.
Mission Point Lighthouse
Even if you don’t plan to spend time on the beach, a drive out to the Old Mission Lighthouse is always worthwhile. This spot at the tip of the peninsula is home to a beach, but also a gorgeous lighthouse built in 1870 and miles of hiking trails through the woods. The long beach is perfect to walk along, and the views from this sweet place are enough to make you never want to leave!
Bryant Park Beach
Located at the base of Old Mission Peninsula on West Bay, this park offers a wide sandy beach and plenty of grassy areas to relax in the shade. With a relatively small parking lot, this beach generally isn’t as busy as the beaches downtown. It’s the perfect option if you want to stop for some relaxing time near the water before returning to the hustle and bustle of Traverse City.
Don’t forget to stop by the Chateau Grand Traverse tasting room while you’re out on the peninsula – it’s the perfect place for a refreshing glass of wine and a beautiful view of the water to prepare you for your time at the beach!
