Cherry Muffins

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • Juice of one Orange (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 3/4 Cup Sour Cream
  • 2 Cups Flour, Sifted
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Grated Orange Rind
  • 1/2 Cup Dried Cherries
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts


  1. Mix sugar and orange juice.  Set aside for dipping after muffins are cooked.
  2. Cream butter and sugar.  Add sour cream alternately with the dry ingredients.
  3. Fold in orange rind, cherries and nuts.  This is a stiff batter.
  4. Use well greased muffin tins that are small so that these are bite-sized.  Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.  While still warm, dip them in the sugar-orange juice mixture.
  5. Cool on a wire rack.
  6. Pair with Chateau Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling, and enjoy!
