Red, White & Blue Sangria for Your Fourth of July

 In CGT Blog

Fourth of July is the perfect blend of patriotism and warm weather. Why not get into the spirit with a thirst-quenching red, white and blue sangria made with American white wine.

It’s easy, too.

Just make colorful fruity ice cubes ahead of time with cherries and blueberries. The beauty of this recipe is the simplicity – fruity ice cubes freeze faster than your typical sangria steep time and quickly add flavor to wine as they melt. When the time comes to serve your sangria, simply place the ice cubes in a glass or pitcher and top them with Chateau Grand Traverse Riesling. We offer dry, semidry and sweet Riesling, so this recipe can be made with whichever wine fits your taste.

Having a party? Buy a bottle of each and let your guests choose their favorite option!

Red, White & Blue Sangria Ingredients

  • Cherry juice or pureed cherries
  • Blueberry juice or pureed blueberries
  • Your favorite Chateau Grand Traverse Riesling
  • Fresh strawberries for garnishing glasses

A standard ice cube holds right around 1 oz. Count the number of ice cubes in your tray to determine how much fruit juice/puree you will need. For example, a 16-cube tray will need 16 ounces of cherry juice (or 2 Cups).

Red, White & Blue Sangria Instructions

  • Pour cherry juice or puree into an ice cube tray and place in the freezer until solid.
  • Pour blueberry juice or puree into an ice cube tray and place in the freezer until solid.
  • By the glass: Put a few of each flavor of ice cubes into a glass and pour chilled wine over the top.
  • By the pitcher: Put all of the ice cubes into a pitcher and pour a bottle or two of wine over the top.
  • Garnish with fresh strawberries.
  • Optional: Add a splash of Vernors ginger ale and/or brandy just before serving for an extra kick.

We hope you have an incredible Fourth of July. We prefer spending our holiday around a lake with family, friends and great wine. We find it to be the perfect combination of ingredients for lasting memories. We are Michigan winemakers, but we were Michiganders first. And we truly believe that nothing beats summer in Northern Michigan. But one way to make it better: red, white and blue sangria. Cheers!
