How to Shop with a Wine Glass in Hand
We’ve made our lists and checked them twice. With the season’s chill in the air, it’s time to bundle up and hit the… mall? Or maybe it’s time to settle in to your favorite easy chair with your computer and credit card close by. Holiday shopping doesn’t have to be a drag. As a matter of fact, we’ve come up with a few great ways to keep a glass of wine nearby while racking up those holiday purchases, because we know firsthand that a sip or two can cushion the blow of retail therapy sticker shock.
Get out and Shop Local
During the holidays, you can support some of our favorite local Traverse City artisans and retailers while you sip local wine (or beer or spirits) that they’ve purchased for you to enjoy as you shop! Here’s a round-up of holiday shopping events that make it quick and easy to find all the local gift items on your list:
- There’s no wine, but there is kombucha: MRKT Share – A Holiday Pop-Up: Saturday, December 10 from 10-3pm Warehouse Market, Traverse City
- Downtown TC Men’s Shopping Night: Thursday, December 15 from 5-9pm, downtown Traverse City
- Little Fleet Holiday Market: Saturday, December 17 from 1-6pm, Little Fleet, 448. E. Front Street
This is a great way to support our local economy with a one-two punch.
If you can’t make it to one of these events then consider making Chateau Grand Traverse part of a daytime winter wine tour. Most tour buses meet groups downtown for drop off and pick up, so it’s perfect! The Tasting Room at CGT has a wide array of wine-related gifts – from wine racks to decanters to sassy wine decor. Once you and your friends have visited us and some other wineries, get dropped back off in downtown Traverse City and hit the streets to find something for everyone on your list.
Stay in and Shop Savvy
With that post-dinner glass of wine topped off, your computer beckons you into the throes of late-night online shopping. With list and credit card in hand, you can knock out most of your holiday shopping in one night without ever leaving the comfort of your favorite armchair. What better way to check those nice friends and family off your list than with a few clicks of the mouse?
When the wine is poured, we do recommend leaving the rest of the bottle in the kitchen, rather than putting it alongside the glass next to your computer. When we’ve put a bottle of wine, a credit card, and the Internet together in the past, we’ve found ourselves wreaking havoc on our pocketbooks. If you err on the side of indulgence, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Whether you’re in-store or online, a glass of wine can make your holiday shopping experience more merry. What’s your favorite wine-while-shopping story?
